We have casual Fridays at work – this can easily mean jeans and a t-shirt. But I’ve been trying to have a bit more fun than that – jeans still but kicked up a notch.

Me, in jeans and a cap-sleeved shirt, wearing a snap brim fedora

This is what I wore to work this past Friday. I also wore a jacket, because I get so cold, but I wanted to take this picture without it to give a general effect – layers of black are hard to photograph. The details get lost, at least for me and my camera phone. *laugh* It might help if I weren’t taking pictures in the bathroom mirror, right?

Y’all, I love these jeans. They’re by City Chic. I would highly recommend them if you can catch one of the last pairs there in a 28 – that’s what these are and I could have lived with a 26. I hate that they shrank their size range because they really DO have cute stuff. Seriously. I’ve had some luck with their XL tops – but that’s a whole other post.

Anyway. These jeans. Love.

This top is a piece of pre-pink Torrid ancient history. It’s held up remarkably well though I’m down to one button on the back of the neck. The sleeves, obvs, don’t provide much coverage so it’s not for the arm shy but I LOVE IT. And I love it for layering. It DOES show bra straps as well. Which, again, isn’t a problem for me. *grin*

The snap brim fedora has long resided in my closet (or, you know, on my head). I went out to a line dancing bar a week or so ago with some friends and had to dig out my cowboy hat; when I found that, I found the fedora as well. That’s three fedoras between me and my husband. *laugh* I like to wear hats. This hat certainly got a positive reaction.

I don’t have a picture of the jacket I wore from that day – but I do have this shot of the back of it.

Me, over the shoulder, showing the detail of my jacket

This is a cropped tux jacket from Lane Bryant that I bought ages ago and never wore. So one night I decided I knew what to do to it – I added a ton of rhinestones in a skull and crossbones pattern. I wear the damn thing all the time now. *laugh*

It’s cropped and meant to be worn open so it’s easy to just throw on over things. I put rhinestones on the hankie pocket in the front as well. It’s just my kind of glam.

Casual Friday did mean no makeup other than lipstick – but a nice red lip is sometimes more than enough. I wear Ruby Woo from MAC on a pretty regular basis.

I also wore red boots – I have red Ariat stable boots (so massively comfortable) that were worth the trip to the western wear store, 100%.

Casual Friday doesn’t have to be about jeans and a t-shirt – though there is absolutely nothing wrong if it does mean that. It can be an opportunity, though, I think, to play around a little more than you usually would.

What are you wearing today?

Black jersey shorts (long enough–WOMAN WITHIN, 4x) and a sleeveless v-neck T, also black. Pink beads slung over. Barefoot. Work at home. I live in AZ, so must be sleeveless, which is darn comfy, too. Bra straps? I got a leopard bra with leopard straps. Cute! Ebay… Whatever you wear–just work it.

I love this series! I’m wearing black leggings (Target), a black sheath dress with a black and white patterned panel down the front (Marshall’s), and a black cardigan thrown over it at the office because it’s freezing. Also bronze flats – Seychelles, bought at a consignment shop, new.

I love that top! So cute. Now I’m regretting not purchasing some of the lace tops I saw the last time I was out and about, especially since it would be a great layering piece. Next time, Gadget, next time!

Navy slacks (on sale from Lane Bryant < $20), Old Navy white polo, Hot pink sweater also LB (gold dot $7), black loafers.

Because this was what was on top of my (clean) laundry basket this morning, so I wore all these pieces last week. But not together, although I really like navy + pink.

I had to change my bra after getting dressed because I was nipping, and even that minor issue was more than I felt up to this morning.

I do so much better when I plan my outfits the night before.

I love your skull and crossbones jacket so much! I long for a smart, cropped black jacket to wear open over things but have been unsuccessful thus far.

Today I am wearing a three-year-old cotton Avenue frock as it was stinking hot and it’s one of the coolest things I own. It’s red with a Scandinavian looking leaf print in what is either a lousy black or a very dark navy. It’s one of my usual Empire-line, hourglass-faker numbers, though it has a slightly higher neckline than usual. I have paired it with a dark navy, short-sleeved cotton knit shrug, red strappy wedges and a fuckton of silver jewellery as I hadn’t given it an airing for a while. On Mondays I work for a small, non-profit arts organisation which, like everywhere else I work, has no dress code beyond, “be clean and not naked”. Our managing director is usually resplendent in a black tee and a pair of long, loose khaki shorts while I’m generally dressed to the nines.

    Love the look Marianne!

I had a super big presentation at work to dress up for today so I wore my Igigi Tres Chic cowl neck dress, black with a white spatter pattern. It’s one of those magic dresses that seems to be appropriate for everything. My super comfy but dressy Clarks skimmer-style flats went with it.

    Marianne, you said:

“casual Fridays at work – this can easily mean jeans and a t-shirt.” Jeans and t-shirt, my fave outfit of all, more relaxing and very comfy.I so love your jacket and fedora hat.And what I love most is the color (all black)..I just love your fashion sense the combination of the color from your clothes even your make-ups..Anyway the important of all is your confident of what you wear..Never cared of what others think right?

I’m wearing grey pants and a black tee shirt. I’m afraid I had a rushed morning and went with whatever fell to hand easily that also worked for the office. I do have on cute jewelery, though!

I need that shirt desperately. I need a time machine so I can go back to pre-pink Torrid and buy shit.

Related side note: I personally have found Torrid’s sizes shrinking since they went pink. I’m about 30 pounds up from the pre-pink days, and I have pre-pink 26s that are still a hair too big. Meanwhile, I have a pair of grey capri slacks, also in a 26, from 4 or 5 years ago that barely fasten. But now, I have a pencil skirt I just bought a few months ago in a 28 that wouldn’t have zipped in a 26. I suspect, based on fit, that their current 28 is a pre-pink 26.
